As we journey in our faith walk, having content that speaks to our faith is incredibly important. Whether we are aware of it or not, the content we consume every day constantly feeds our brains with information, including both lies and truths. But how can we be certain that what we’re consuming is solid, reliable information? As someone who loves to read, I have come across some amazing books that have sparked excitement and brought knowledge to my faith. I have compiled my top three book recommendations that that I felt deeply affected me in my own faith journey.
God Has A Name by John Mark Comer
John Mark Comer’s teachings focus on the importance of discipleship and the importance of knowing God intimately. Through this book, John Mark explores the identity of God and seeks to answer the question: Who is God? Comer emphasises the character and nature of God and how it impacts our lives as followers of Christ.

Using Exodus 34:4-7, he dives into the identity of God and what His name means for us. Using scripture as a reference, we can see the personhood of God and how our relationship with him can go so much deeper. Through his down-to-earth writing style, John Mark does an excellent job at walking us through the deep context of God’s personhood in a way that translates in a very digestible way.
This book has honestly changed my life, and I hope it does the same for you!
Garden City by John Mark Comer
Surprise surprise – another John Mark Comer book!
In Garden City, John Mark navigates the idea that our work is an important part of our role as God’s children and how we can honour him through everything that we do.

He starts off by speaking to our designed purpose as God’s creation. He then touches on the topic of rest and the fact that the Sabbath is made for us.
In the third part of his book, Comer focuses on the future and the idea of new creation. He speaks to the truth that all work done for the glory of God will prosper and be honouring to him. This goes beyond the obvious acts of serving in the church or the faith-based work we might do throughout the week. We can honour God in everything we do — In our part-time jobs, doing chores for our parents, being creative with our hobbies, the list goes on!
The overarching theme of this book speaks to our calling as humans and as partners in God’s plans for heaven and earth. He emphasises the fact that God has invited us into the creation of our world and how we can honour him by being obedient to our calling and offering our lives as an act of worship to his mission.
If you’re feeling lost in your calling, lack of purpose, or struggling to see the why behind your role in God’s plans, this book is for you!
Don’t Give The Enemy A Seat At Your Table by Louie Giglio
The third and final book I want to highlight is Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table, written by Louie Giglio. This book seeks to highlight the enemy’s tactics and disarm the harmful thoughts planted in our minds every day.

Using Psalm 23 as a framework, Louie seeks to confront the lies of the enemy that plague our minds and lead us down a path of destruction. He calls out the tactics of the devil and brings to light how the enemy’s words plant seeds of death in our minds. He counteracts these lies with the truth of God’s word outlined in scripture.
He encourages the reader to acknowledge and embrace the purpose behind our creation and look at challenges as roadblocks that we can combat with scripture and who God says we are. We can make the choice to deny the enemy a seat at our table. Instead, we can sit comfortably with the Lord knowing that He is in control.
This book helps us as Christ followers to identify the lies of the enemy and combat them with the truth of God’s word. Regardless of where we are in life, it is always important to be aware of how the enemy is working against us and how the Bible can serve as a guide to redeem our identity in Christ.
