Easter is the most important moment in the Christian faith because it proves that Jesus is who He said He is. Jesus didn’t just die — He rose again, and that changes everything for us today.
What Is The The Easter Story?
The Easter story is recorded in the Gospels (the first four books of the New Testament). You can find the story in these chapters:
- Matthew 26–28
- Mark 14–16
- Luke 22–24
- John 18–20
It tells the story of the Last Supper, Jesus being arrested, Jesus being crucified, and Jesus rising from the dead.
Easter is the moment when the mission of Jesus becomes clear. The cross shows His sacrifice, and the resurrection shows His victory.
Why is it so important?
The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith. Without it, Christianity would have no power or hope.
Paul tells us here in 1 Corinthians just that,
“3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” – 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Paul even goes as far as saying that,
“If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” – 1 Corinthians 15:14
That means the resurrection isn’t just a nice story; it means everything to us.
4 Things Easter (The Resurrection) Shows Us
1. Jesus Really Is the Messiah
The resurrection proves Jesus wasn’t just a teacher or a prophet. It proves He is the Son of God. The empty tomb confirms who He truly is!
2. Death Doesn’t Win
Good Friday looked like the enemy had won, but when Jesus rose from the dead, it showed us that God had the final word. What looked like the enemy’s greatest day became God’s greatest victory. That’s why we can call it “good” Friday.
3. Our Faith Has Real Evidence
After Jesus rose, He appeared to Peter, the twelve disciples, more than 500 people at once, James, the apostles, and later Paul….People didn’t just believe blindly — they saw Him alive.
This explains why they were willing to die for their faith, turn from their Jewish traditions, and even CHANGE their day of worship from Saturday to Sunday (the day Jesus resurrected) in order to have a weekly reminder of what Jesus had done for them.
4. Jesus Is Alive Today
Because Jesus rose, He is still active today. His ministry didn’t end at his death. That means that Jesus is our High Priest, our Advocate, our Intercessor and so much more.
Christianity isn’t just about a historical figure; it’s about a living Saviour who lives inside anyone who believes in Him!
Why Communion Matters
The Easter story really begins with Jesus and his disciples celebrating the passover meal together. During this meal, they take communion together for the first time. In the most simplistic way I can put it, we do communion today because Jesus told us to.
Jesus said: “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me… This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:23–26)
Communion helps us do two key things:
- Remember what Jesus did for us on the cross
- Align our hearts with God’s heart
As a Church, we take communion monthly together, and it gives us a chance to pause and remember what Jesus did for us. In the same way, it’s an opportunity for us to align our hearts with God’s heart. What do I mean by that? Well, it’s a chance for us to put our attention back on him and away from us. We tend to be selfish, but when we align our hearts with God’s heart, we move from selfishness to selflessness. Putting Him first, seeking forgiveness, and allowing Him to take His rightful place in our lives!
Communion reminds us that Jesus gave His life for us, our sins are forgiven, and our hearts should align with God again so we can walk in our new identity found in Him!
Why This Matters for Your Life
Easter isn’t just something Christians celebrate once a year. It changes how we live every day. Because Jesus rose, sin doesn’t define your future, death doesn’t get the final word, and hope is always possible!
